Things didn't go to plan for the Welsh girls in the second day of individuals at the Multiversum arena in Schwechat.
Megan Phillips was first on and had the highly European ranked Lucia Truksova of Slovakia in the round of 128. She lost out 1-4 (-8, -3, 9, -6, -10) but gave a good account of herself in the match. Charlotte Carey and Nicole were both called into action the same time but in different halls. Charlotte led 3-2 in her battle with Eliza Trotti of Italy, but couldn't close her out and lost 3-4 (-12, 8, 4, -6, 8, -9, -7). Nicole lost to the better player on the day in Eliza Khlyova of Russia 0-4 (-4, -7, -5, -3).
Angharad was last on for the Welsh players and had the task of defeating Belarus left-hander Katsiar Baravok to keep Welsh participation in the event alive. After trailing 0-2, she did manage to take a set to give hope but that was the last she could take and lost the remaining 2 sets to lose 1-4 (-7, -7, 9, -9, -6)
The doubles went much better with 2 fine wins. Angharad and sister Megan beat Switzerland 3-2 and Charlotte/Nicole beat Italy 3-1 to reach the last 32. Today they have stiffer opponents and will need to step things up. The consolation also begins where all players compete this morning.
