French Junior Open - Day 3

20th April, 2012

Day 3 Report

Things didn’t go right to plan in the first team matches. The boys (Conor, Alex and Lewis) lost to France C in a very fast time. The boys couldn’t get close to the French players and each set saw a huge gap. It wasn’t lack of effort but everything seemed to go the French teams way.

The girls had a very close match against Germany but the same score of 0-3 sat on the scoreboard at the end. Angharad (1-3), Charlotte (1-3) and Megan (0-3) tried their best but lost the close sets too often.

In the afternoon match versus England Lewis Williams lost out to Sam Walker. Lewis Gray then beat Alex Prosser close before Conor Edwards saw a 5-2 lead in the 5th set vanish against Igor Morais to give England the 3-0 win.

The last matches had the boys take on Germany and the girls take on Poland. The girls had to win to qualify but the boys needed other results to go their way even if they could manage to beat one of the favourites. Both games went to the opponents with the boys losing out 3-0 to the strong Germans. The girls had hope with Megan winning the first match and Chloe tied at 2-2 in hers, but that was as close as we got with Chloe missing out, Angharad losing at number 3 and Megan unable to beat Wabik to take the match into a decider.
