Report on the Swansea Building Society Dragon 26th Feb 2012
The 5th Dragon of the season saw a change of venue to the Swansea Penlan Club and several “new players” from West Wales entered. 12 players contested the under 15s event, the top group of 4 was a close affair, in the end won by a new player Shankly Ismail, from runner up Peter Morse. The under 11s had 15 entries; the final top group of 4 saw 2 new players (Liam Taylor and Harry Langley) and 2 Dragon regulars (Jack ODuffy and Bethany Brewer). In the end Harry took the win from runner up Liam. To sum up another good completion with plenty of games for the players, many thanks to Dennis Bromage for the organisation and it was great to see TTAW President Betty Gray MBE present certificates and trophies.
The second and final weekend of the Veterans division took place over 2 days on the 18th & 19th February.
At the end of the first weekend the Division 1 table showed Cardiff A, and B teams occupying places 1 & 2, Eastern Valley A, and B teams in places 3 & 4, with North Gwent in 5th place, and Swansea A occupying the automatic relegation spot.
Day 3
Boys Under 21s
Tough start for eveyone in the Safir 2012 International held in Orbrero. First matches of the day saw both Dean Cundy and Daniel O'Connel lose out to their opponents. Dean put up a great fight only to lose out to Jim Cloos of Luxembourg 14-12 in the 5th. Dan had a tough start playing against Victor Anderson of Sweden. Ryan Oyler played well but found Anders Eriksson of Sweden too strong.
Junior Jenks does the Double
Jac Jenkins out performed everyone in the recent Burton 1star to take both Cadets and under 13's events without dropping a set. On his way to the Cadet final he beat Welsh Team mate Tommy Heydon in the semis. In the under 13's event Jac had no problems to the final with beating the English number 1 in the under 11 age category. Tommy on this occasion lost out to Aman Rashid in the 2nd round and Marc Castro losing out to James Smith in the Quarters.
With reference to the above, I have attached an entry form for the events. Please complete as necessary and return with your cheque to our Tournament Secretary Chris Davies. Last year's tournaments were very successful and it will be great if we have a good number of entries this year as well. In addition to the events shown on the entry form, we are planning to run a junior event. Details of that will be issued shortly.
