The team events finally came to a close with both teams finishing with wins. After the women beat Azerbaijan 3-0 with all three girls winning it was then Ireland for 29th/30th.
Naomi got her revenge against Amanda Mogey for the loss in the Cardiff GP final with a great display (3-0). Angharad followed suit with her best performance to date in a Welsh shirt with a 3-0 win against Clare Nelson. Chloe lost to Ashley Givan 0-3 in the middle match but Naomi brought home the win against Clare 3-0 so we ended up a credible 29th.
Latvia was in front of the men’s team for the final places and it was a hard fought match. Ryan managed to win both singles and Steve took the decisive 3rd match for a 3-2 win. Patrick had a great chance to win his first singles but lost out 2-3 to their number 3 player. Steve lost a close 5th end to the number 2 which levelled the match 2-2 with Ryan to seal the victory. The men finished up at 27th spot and stay in this division for next time.
Singles and Doubles
Wins continue to come with Ryan and Stephen beating the Lithuania top pairing 3-0 in the first round of the men’s doubles. They will play Primorac and Juzbasic in the 2nd round tomorrow. Steve had a great win against a Kosovan player in round 1 of the singles 4-0 to face his idol in round 2, Zoran Primorac tomorrow.
Patrick recorded his first win of the event with a 4-0 win and now plays number 5 seed Christian Suss in a huge match-up.
All players now compete tomorrow with Ryan, Patrick and Steve in the last 128 of the men’s singles. The ladies start their campaign’s in the morning.
