The men's team, without Adam Robertson, has found it tough going. They lost 0-3 to a strong Slovakian side. The highlight of this match was Stephen Jenkins being 2-0 up against European top 50 player Thomas Keinath and 7-4 in the 5th but couldn't manage to close the match out. Ryan lost 11-9 in the 4th set to Bardon and Patrick lost to Sereda 0-3.
Then it was onto Latvia. Ryan took the win against the number three 3-0 but Burgis, their number one beat both Patrick and Ryan. Steve lost a close match at number 3 to the left handed Latvian which ended the tie.
There was no let up with Wales then playing Italy. No changes in fortune for the lads as they lost 0-3 to a strong developed side. Steve played very well once more against a high European player in Bobacica losing 1-3.
Now it is Switzerland and a match where Wales can do much better...
The ladies had an eventful day first day with a fire and a flood affecting the morning's early matches. This meant they were put back to 3pm to face Lithuania. When Naomi lost her encounter 12-10 in the 5th set it was always going to be tough for Chloe and Angharad. They both did their best but the match was done 3-0.
Then onto the old foe, England. Naomi didn't play her best and lost 0-3 to Sibley and again it was tough for Angharad (against Parker) and Chloe (against Hicks) to get a match back. It finished 3-0 to England.
The third match brought a win for us in the shape of Norway. Naomi, Angharad and Chloe all won their singles to win the match 3-0 and get us off and running. Next it was Kosovo, and another great win, this time 3-1 (Chloe lost a close match in the 5th) to finish 3rd in the group.
The draw for the second stage is at 12.00 noon local time
