Day 3 - Ostrava

14th September, 2010

Results have been far better for both teams as the competition progresses. The men were able to register their first win of the competition beating Switzerland 3-2. The Jenkins brothers combined to guarantee Wales remain in this division next time. Ryan won both his singles against Hotz (3-0) and Mohler (3-2) and Steve beat Hotz in the final match 3-2 to seal it.

Patrick played far better against Joset in the middle match but couldn’t stay with the Geneva man as he stepped up the tempo in the 4th.
Against Luxembourg later that day it was almost a repeat of the Jenkins double act but Steve lost out in the 3rd match 2-3 to Jachec which meant with Ryan winning both singles again (Ciocu 3-0 and Gilles 3-1) there was no win this time.
Patrick showed further signs of his development with two better displays against Ciocu and Gilles but couldn’t get near enough to put them under hard pressure.
Latvia once again is the final match for positions 27-28, which, ironically, without Adam, is better than last time in Stuttgart, Germany. When he returns we will look for a top 20 finish.

The women’s team failed to make it a double against the Swiss as they fell 1-3. Chloe lost the first match to Furher 0-3 but Naomi steamed back to level the match at 1 each with a great display.

Unfortunately Angharad couldn’t reach the heights she needed and missed out 1-3 in the 3rd match which meant we needed Naomi to save us once more. This time she was up against Furher who was a tough cookie to crack and the rallies were intense and furious. Naomi had her chances but Furher wasn’t prepared to let this one slip and fought to the death to come home close in the 5th.
Today the girls will play Azerbaijan in the morning’s match
