Double Gold for Carey
Charlotte Carey has added the British U14 Gold to her already strong achievements list. After beating Emma Torkington (England) 3-2 in a tense final Charlotte said, “I didn’t play my best but I am very happy with winning the title. It has been a successful weekend for me and now I’m looking forward to the European Championships in Turkey and the UK School Games in England later in the summer”.
Chloe Thomas and Lee Morgan were silver medallists at today’s event losing to Alice Loveridge (Guernsey) and Shi Zhao Li (Ireland) respectively.
Lewis Williams was a semi finalist in the U14’s after losing to rival Jared Patel in the group stage but then beating number one seed Helshan Weerasinghe in the Q finals. Lewis then lost to Welsh team mate Lee in the semis. Beth Roberts lost in the U14 singles Q final to Torkington who eventually lost in the final.
Angharad lost to Sophie Neil 3-2 in the Q finals of the U18’s and Nicole Hall lost in the same round of the U16’s to Eve Collier, also 3-2.
Megan Phillips won the U16 girls consolation after losing to Edel O’Reilly and Tressa Armitage in her group, whilst Josh Jenkins was a semi finalist in the boy’s consolation having lost to Liam Robilliard and Declan O’Brian.
The team of coaches which comprised of Claire Ford, Julie Furber, Ryan Jenkins, Stephen Gertsen and Stephen Jenkins were all proud and happy at the results that Wales had over the weekend in Limerick. Team Manager Tim Evans was pleased with the way the tournament went, “Every player gave their best and worked hard for Team Wales. They gave their all to winning for their country”.
Next June the Championships are going to be in Lilleshall, England.
