More Welsh Success Over The Bridge

20th April, 2010

BATTS 1* - Harlow, Essex

Chris Griffiths stole the show on the weekend with not only winning the under 13’s title but narrowly missing out on the under 15’s title. On his course to the under 13’s title he faced other TTK members from London and his fellow country man Thomas Heydon. Chris brushed aside these challengers with only dropping 2 sets by beating Charlie Williams (3-1), Thomas Heydon (3-0), Jamie Dignum (3-0), Charlie Austin (3-0) and then Bradley Osborne, the number 1 seed and ranked 16th in England 3-1.

Chris dropped the first narrowly 10-12 but he showed his fighting spirit to clinch the next three. Jac Jenkins and Thomas had two great wins in the group stages but came across strong opposition in the 1st round. Jac lost 3-1 to Adam Jepson of Essex in the 1st round and Thomas Heydon losing to eventual winner Chris Griffiths.

Things got even better for the squad, with an all Welsh semi final to look forward to. Number 2 seed Conor Edwards faced Ashley Stavrakis in one semi while Chris Griffiths faced Alex Prosser. Conor beat Ashley 3-0 and Chris beat Alex 3-1 in other. The final proved to be an excellent match going right down to the wire with Conor coming out as eventual winner in the 5th.

Jac was unlucky to lose against Conor in the 2nd round but every set proved a battle for the champ. Thomas Heydon lost to Charlie Austin in the 2nd round 0-3.

Result: U13 winner Chris Griffiths; U15 winner Conor Edwards....

Well done to all players who showed great professionalism and sportsmanship throughout the weekend.
