There was a strong Welsh influence in two of the teams which gained promotion at the conclusion of the second weekend of the Women’s British League, held on 6 and 7 February in Doncaster.
In Division 2, Angharad and Megan Phillips played a significant role in guiding their team, Halton, to runners up position just behind champions, Drumchapel. Angharad won 8 out of her 10 matches; her victories included the significant scalps of the UK Schools finalist, Melissa Wright and also Scotland’s number 2 senior, Rebecca Russell. Meanwhile, Megan, who won 7 of her 10 matches, had good wins against the highly ranked Reena Ardeshena, Laura Robinson and Rebekah Griffiths.
In division 4, Julie Furber and Claire Ford were also enjoying a successful weekend as their team, Byng Hall B, gained promotion to Division 3. Over the two weekends of the competition, both Julie and Claire won 70% of their matches. Julie had a very convincing win against Joanne Kennedy and Claire had a good victory against Sarah Hudson.
Meanwhile in Division 1, Naomi Wilson also won 7 matches out of 10. Her most impressive performances were the 3-0 wins over Natalie Slater and Yolanda King. Other victories also included Joanna Roberts, Sarah Perks and Clare Langford. Naomi’s team, Poole Ladies, finished 3rd in their division.
A successful weekend for all involved.
