Newport Cadet Open 2009
In another interesting day of table tennis the tournament started with the under 13 boys and girls events.
In the girls event Beth Roberts justified her ranking by winning her event without dropping a game. In the boys event Liam Winder made an excellent start beating the number 3 seed to win his group. He followed this with wins over Louie Evans and Ethan Lewis who himself had beaten the number 2 seed in the previous round. In the final Liam continued to give a good account of himself but Ryan Oyler eventually proved too strong and won the final game of a 5 setter 11-5.
In the afternoon the cadet events got under way in the girls event Nicole Hall came through undefeated and Beth Roberts again showed her potential by taking the runner up position. In the bays event the tournament followed the seeding for much of the event. The final itself was an entirely different matter. In a display of outstanding table tennis from both players Lee Morgan beat Lewis Williams in 5 sets of high quality, hard fought table tennis.
