Wales had their most successful European tournament ever in the Belgian town of Namur on the 31st October – 1st November 2009.
Charlotte Carey, Lewis Williams, Megan Phillips, Thomas Heyden, Caitlin Williams and Matt Lancey formed the team that finished overall in 10th place. This bettered last year’s 22nd finish. There was a GOLD won by Charlotte and a BRONZE won by Lewis.
There was a reasonable representation from Wales at the Junior British League held last weekend at Fenton Manor. There were three teams made up entirely of players from Wales, whilst Charlotte Carey represented Burton Uxbridge.
English Open report
The young Welsh players of Megan Phillips, Chloe Thomas, Patrick Thomas and Angharad Phillips all found the tournament a great experience and will gain a great deal from mixing with top players like Michael Maze and Ma long in the practice area. They never registered any wins in both the open singles and the U21 singles but showed ability taking sets off various players in their respected groups.
