Woman's British League - Bristol University

4th October, 2009

The weekend of the 27/28th September saw the first of two weekends of this season's Women's British League. The event, which was held in Bristol University, included 5 players from Wales.

In Division 1, Naomi Wilson had excellent wins against Lisa Standon, Sarah Perks, Dawn Morgan and the young Guernsey starlet, Alice Loveridge. Frustratingly for Naomi, she lost 3 matches in the fifth set, one of which was against the in-form Egle Adomelyte.

The Phillips twins, Angharad and Megan both enjoyed a successful weekend. Megan returned home with a 90% win record, whilst Angharad won 8 out her 10 matches. Megan enjoyed some notable victories especially against the UK School Games individual silver medalist, Melissa Wright in three straight sets. Angharad also achieved a notable win against Scotland's number 2, Rebecca Russell, coming back from 2-0 down.

Julie Furber and Claire Ford made their debut in Womens British League, representing Bying Hall TTC. Both Bying Hall teams did well with the A team holding 3rd position in division 3 and the B team holding 2nd in division 4. Julie's average in div 3 was 100% and her average in div 4 was 87.5%. Julie's best win was 3-0 against Joanne Kennedy from East Midlands. Claire's average was 70% in div 4 with her best win against Sarah Horsnell in 4 sets.
