MEGAN AND CHARLOTTE SHINE IN EXETER
Welsh players had an excellent weekend at the Exeter Grand prix held at the University of Exeter Sports Park.
Megan Phillips played really well to win Band 2 beating Jasmine Ould (Kent) in the semi final then Vicky Smith (Devon) in the final.
Charlotte Carey won the U21 event on the Sunday afternoon beating Angharad Phillips in the semi final then beating Jasmine Ould (Kent) in the final.
Other Welsh success came with Nick Brown getting to the final of band 3 losing out to the talented Lewis Gray (Kent). Lee Morgan reached the final of band 4 also losing out to Lewis Gray. Josh Jenkins reached the final of band 5 losing to a new face, Fevour Gariga (Dorset) playing in his first grand prix tournament.
In addition, fifteen year old Angharad Phillips reached the semi-final of the women's singles competition and probably the most impressive one-off performance of the weekend by a Welsh player was provided by thirteen year old Lewis Williams who beat Richard Marshall, the number 9 seed in the men's competition.
