Patrick Thomas played some of his best table tennis to date to take home a silver medal at the U21 competition in the Ostende Masters.
Patrick fought through countless rounds against European competitors to face a ferocious Chinese player in the final who proved too strong.
The youngster, from the Blaenavon table tennis club, has been selected for the senior Wales team who depart for Stuttgart, Germany in the European Championships in September. He is also a strong candidate to make the team for the Commonwealth Games in Dehli 2010.
There was more great news for the Table Tennis Association for Wales when Cameron Thomas secured a bronze medal in the junior boys event the same day. Cameron also lost against a Chinese opponent who out witted him.
Patrick and Cameron are joined by Ceri James, Nick Brown and Steven Gertsen at the Championships.
