The 2009 Welsh Primary Schools Team Championships were held at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff on Friday May 29. Nineteen primary schools in Wales entered teams in the event, with a total of forty-two players. Play was in groups throughout, so that all teams played at least six matches. The scoring system, unique to this event, was quickly picked up by all the young players (though some of the adults had a few problems with it …) and all the games were played in a friendly and co-operative spirit.
Winners were Ryan James and Joshua Li Saw Hee, representing Radyr Primary School, with brothers Alex and Matthew Francis from Craig-y-Nos Primary in Swansea as runners-up. Ashley Perry, Jack Rees and Matthew Beddis of Upper Rhymney Primary came third.
Many thanks to Ron and Marion Davies for such an efficiently run and enjoyable day.
