MEGAN WINS AT BARNSLEY GRAND PRIX

Twins Angharad and Megan travelled last weekend to Barnsley for the latest of the ETTA Grand Prix Series.

With Megan having 1738 senior ranking points in the English system and Angharad with 1985 points, both girls were
entered in the band 2 and 3 events. In the band 2 event, both sisters reached the semi-finals before losing out to the number 1 and 2 two seeds, with Megan losing 3-2 to Ikue Humphrey (2555 points) and Angharad losing 3-1 to eventual winner Hang Li (2500 points).

In the band 3 event, it turned out to be a Phillips final. On the way to the final, both Angharad and Megan enjoyed some notable wins. As is normally the case when the two sisters play eachother, the final proved to be a very close and keenly contested match. Angharad raced off to a two set lead before Megan fought her way back to eventually win by three sets to two, 11-9 in the fifth.

The second day of the tournament was the Women's and the Under 21 events. Megan continued her fine form from the previous day taking a number of notable scalps. In the Women's event, she fought her way through to the last eight before losing to the number 1 seed, Shu Ying Xu (4591 points) who went on to win the event. Angharad was in a very tough group and lost out on countback, despite beating the much higher ranked irish player Roz Carpenter (2797 points).

In the under 21 event, both Angharad and Megan, who were the only female players from Wales at this Grand Prix event, again made it to the quarter finals. Unfortunately, they, again, came up against the number 1 and 2 seeds, with Megan losing to Sarah Perks (3214) and Angharad losing to Caroline Hallows (3213).
