The Newport Junior Open 2009
The Newport Junior Open was held on Sunday 1 March. With one of the biggest entries ever it was bound to be a very busy day. Competitors from all over Wales and 1 from England arrived at Newport ready to battle for the title of Newport Open Champion.

The day started with the Under 13 girls and cadet boys events. In the girls event Charlotte Carey lived up to her ranking winning comfortably over Sasha Denby.
The cadet boys were completely different when Lee Morgan played well above his expectations beating the No 2 and No3 seeds before making an amazing comeback from 2 sets down in the final to beat the No 1 seed Lewis Williams in 5 sets to win the event.
Following this, came the cadet girls and under 13 boys events. The expected pairing of Anghared Phillips and Chloe Thomas reached the final with Chloe overcoming Anghared in 5 very close games.
In the boys event Lewis Williams made no mistake this time defeating Alex O'Connell in 3 straight games.
In the final events of the day the junior girls' final was contested by the likely pair of Chloe Thomas and Natasha Rees. Natasha was given a big scare in the semi final being taken
close over 4 sets by Megan Phillips but won the final convincingly in straight sets.
In the boys event last years winner Patrick Thomas retained his title in 3 sets over Sean Lancey who had played amazingly well to reach the final beating both the No1 and No 4 seeds on the way.
