WALES FIND IT TOUGH IN PORTUGAL

Two Welsh Cadet teams travelled to Portugal to compete in the Portuguese Youth Open Tournament. The teams consisted of Daniel O Connell and Lewis Williams for the boys with Chloe Thomas and Charlotte Carey for the girls. The event was held in Tavira in the Algarve region of Portugal.

The tournament was very tough; it was probably the strongest junior tournament I have ever attended with some of the top ranked cadet and junior players in the world. The winner of the junior girls was Benadette Szocs who is currently ranked at number 10 in the world cadet ranking list.

The Welsh boys finished 18th in the team event and the Welsh girls finished 19th. Unfortunately none of the four Welsh players were able to get through their singles groups but all competed well and found it to be an excellent experience.
