Wales aim high in East Midland 4 Star Open
This weekend 8 young welsh players travelled to Grantham to play in the East Midlands 4 star tournament. All of the players played exceptionally well over the weekend and put up a good fight in all of their matches.
In the under 13s boys competition Lewis Williams got through to the quarter finals where he was knocked out by Jared Patel from England , who eventually went through to win the competition. Charlotte Carey was undefeated in the under 13 girls singles until she met Tin Tin Ho in the final.
In the cadet boys singles, Lee Morgan came second in his group but got knocked out of the competition by Ross Wilson. Lewis got through to the final 16 where he again met Jared Petal and lost in the fifth set. Huw Jones went through to the quarter finals where he was also defeated by Jared. The girls were faced with some tough games in the cadet girls singles. Angharad Phillips and Chloe Thomas got knocked out in the top 16 but Megan fought her way into the quarter final where she narrowly lost 12-10 in the fifth to Tin Tin.
On the second day, the team were met by more tough matches. All of the boys got through their groups in the banded event with Lewis and Lee getting knocked out in the top 16. Huw made it into the semi finals where he lost in the fifth to Aidan Keyworth. Charlotte had some close games, beating Stephanie Francis and Anna Donahue. She defeated Danielle Tyler in the final.
The boys had some tough games in the Junior open but Lewis came runner up in his group but was then beaten by Zak Zilesnick. All of the girls played extremely well in the open competition with Charlotte and Angharad getting knocked out in the last 16 and Chloe, Megan and Natasha Rees all getting narrowly defeated in the quarter finals.
The weekend was very successful with all of the Welsh team playing to a very high standard.
