WALES IMPROVE AT JUNIOR/CADET SIX NATIONS

18th March, 2008

Wales sent a team of eight to this years Junior/Cadet Six Nations in Guernsey from 14 – 16 March and a string of excellent performances earned the Welsh party three silver and two bronze medals.

The first silver medal came in the cadet girl’s team competition. The Welsh Girls team of Natasha Rees and Chloe Thomas won against Scotland, Ireland and Guernsey.

Natasha Rees also picked up silver in the cadet girls singles and in fact came very close to gaining a place in the final after losing by only the narrowest of margins to the eventual winner Alice Loveridge from Guernsey.

Daniel O’Connell was our other silver medallist gaining his semi final place in the cadet boys singles after beating the Irish No 1 Sam Logue.

Wales also won bronze medals in the junior boys and girls team competitions. In 2007 Wales finished 5th in both of these events but this year it was 3rd place for our junior boys team of Patrick Thomas & Ceri James and our junior girls team of Angharad & Megan Phillips.

In 2007 only Natasha Rees and Megan Phillips qualified through the groups this year six out of eight players made it to the last 8.

The Competition Format:
Team events in Junior Boys. Junior Girls, Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls.
