Congratulations to Paul Karabardak from Swansea and Scott and Claire Robertson from Deeside on being selected for the Great Britain Table Tennis Team at the Paralympics Games.
The final weekend of Junior British League took place at The Aldersley Leisure Village Wolverhampton on 9th and 10th of February 2008. The North Gwent Team of Ceri James, Daniel O’Connell, and Jonathan Evans finished 3rd in division 2B, narrowly missing out on the second place decided by games for and against.
The luck was certainly running against the Welsh, with the Batts Raquet Sports team of Natasha Rees, Megan and Angharad Phillips and Amy Palin, who were beaten into second place in the girls division 2, by just 2 points by Peniel A.
Other players in action were Patrick and Chloe Thomas, Patrick losing just 4 matches over both weekends representing Waterside in division 1 boys, Chloe winning over half her matches for Waterside B girls.
Wales sent a team of 6 to the Guernsey euro mini championship on the 15th to the 17th of February 2008 which produced some very encouraging performance by our youngsters.
Charlotte Carey and Amy Palin impressed with fine performances over the weekend to finish 4th and 5th respectively. When u consider that only one other British competitor managed to finish in the top 9 it shows the potential that these two girls have.
The boys also showed a lot of character and ability to pick up some fine wins over the weekend and I’m sure there will be a lot more to come from them in the next few years.
The Rhondda Open will be held on the 17th & 18th May 2008. We wish this tournament all the best.
The above tournament will be held on 6th and 7th of September 2008, at the Welsh Institute of Sport Cardiff
The N Wales Junior Open will be held on 3rd May 2008 at Clywedog School, Wrexham, same as Team Championships of Wales venue. Entry forms soon
On Saturday 2 February Beth Roberts, Sasah Denby, Lauren Cundy and Laura Edwards represented Wales at the Essex 1 Star Open. Welsh coach and former English International Tony Boasman was very impressed with the players behaviour and attitude. Tony said `all the girls played well but Beth Roberts had particularly good day, she won the Under 11 Girls singles and reached the final of the Under 13 Girls competition.
