Team Champs Of Wales First Round (Junior And Seniors) Report

27th October, 2006

Seniors First Round

Division 1

Cardiff ‘A’ the present holders of the Championship made a strong start to this year’s campaign winning their 3 matches all 7 – 0 to go top of the table. Swansea ‘A’ & Eastern Valley ‘A’ both won 2 matches with Swansea taking 2nd place on game differance.

Stephen Jenkins made a welcome return to the Championship representing TTK Greenhouse and won all his matches 3 – 0 to have a 100% average. The 3 Cardiff players Owen Clutterbuck, Neil Wright & David Owen were also unbeaten, so the next round should throw up some intriguing matches. There were some very good matches played by some of the younger players namely David Owen, Patrick Thomas, Ben Avery and Adam Draper so these could be rivals for many years to come. The most exciting match being between David & Patrick with David going 2 – 0 up Patrick levelling at 2 – 2 and David going on to win the decider.

Division 2

Both Cardiff ‘D’ and Newport were unbeaten with Cardiff going top on game difference, so there should be a good match in prospect in the next round. Both teams look to be quite strong all round. Cardiff’s Earl Jeffers (unbeaten) tops the averages with Newport’s Ray Goulding 2nd & Alex Jones also unbeaten. Swansea ‘B’ won 2 matches to move into 3rd with young Natasha Rees and Mannie Tang playing well, although Cardiff ’C’ look a useful combination with Ian Jeanes & John Jones playing well.

Division 3

The Bridgend ‘B’ trio of Gemma Thomas, Louis Islip & Dean Richards look quite formidable and top the table on goal difference from Swansea ‘C’ who are also unbeaten, with Bridgend ‘D’ in 3rd place. Louis won all her matches 3 – 0 to have a 100% average with Dean also unbeaten as are Andy Horton (Y Morfa) and Charles Legg ( Swansea ‘C’). So once again we should have some interesting matches in the 2 Round. Mention must be made of the young North Gwent side who were further depleted by players attending British League the trio of Charlotte Jenkins, Greg Price & Aled Liddington fought well without being able to pick up a point.

Juniors First Round

Division 1

Both Cardiff & Eastern Valley ‘A’ have started strongly winning their 3 matches with Cardiff going top on game difference, with Swansea ‘A’ in 3rd. The Cardiff trio of David Owen, Ben Avery and Chris Curnow along with Eastern Valley’s Patrick Thomas & Adam Draper are all unbeaten so when they meet in the next round there should be some exciting matches to watch.

Division 2

Eastern Valley ‘B’ are the only unbeaten side in this Division with Bridgend ‘B’ in second place. However this could prove to be a well contested championship as all teams look capable of beating each other. Unbeaten players are Lewis Williams, Joshua Reed (Eastern Valley) and Huw Jones (Bridgend).

Division 3

Swansea ‘D’ top the table from Bridgend ‘C’ by virtue of playing 1 more match due to there being only 5 teams in the Division. Darryl Rees, Richard Davies (Swansea) & Romy Killick (Bridgend) remain unbeaten. Denbigh’s trio of U’10’s Chloe Edwards,Carys Roberts & Gabby Wan played with great enthusiasm and must surely improve as the season progresses.
