Melbourne 2006: Singles Competition Commences

21st March, 2006

All Welsh players win first matches without dropping a set!

The singles competition matches are best of 7 sets for both men and ladies - unlike the team matches which were best of 5. Groups are mainly groups of 3. Only one player goes through so qualification is very tough. All our players save Naomi Owen had one match only today.

Adam Robertson has been seeded 6th for the competition and is not required to play in the group stages.

However tomorrow will be much tougher with all our players facing the stronger group opponents.

Many of the Welsh squad later watched David Davies take gold for Wales in the 1500 metres swimming. Well done David!

More singles tomorrow and the doubles also starts.
