The Welsh Men`s team lost in the semi final today against a world class Singapore team.
Adam Robertson started for Wales and played unbelievable table tennis for two sets going 2-0 up against Cai Xiao the Singapore 2 who is ranked way above Adam in the world. These two sets were in the eyes of many the best Welsh mens individual performance ever seen. Cai dug deep and had to use all his experience to overcome Adam in 5.
Ryan then played the Singapore number one Yang Zi (who is top seed for the singles) and fought bravely but to no avail against the immensely strong Yang.
Stephen Jenkins gave it all for the cause and was fiercely competitive against Ho, the Singapore defender, but lost 0-3.
This Singapore team are odds on favourites to defeat India in the final tomorrow and we were unfortunate with the draw to have had to face them in the semi.
Wales now face Nigeria tomorrow (around 1am in UK) in the bronze medal play off. Melbourne is around 11 hours ahead of UK time.
Win lose or draw tomorrow this has been a historic performance and our players have made us all proud to be Welsh.
Wales ladies team of Naomi Owen, Bethan Daunton and Siwan Davies concluded in a magnificent 7th place in the team event.
They went down 1-3 today to a very strong Nigeria team in the morning match. Nigeria had previously easily disposed of England.
Despite a sore back Naomi Owen played at the top of her form to win in her first match 3-2 and to go down only very narrowly in the 5th in her second against the Nigerian number 1 player Oshonaiko.
Wales could easily have won this match but it was not to be.
In the last match the girls comprehensively defeated New Zealand 3-0 to finish on a high note and take 7th spot.
Ladies coach Dave Buck had led the girls superbly and was justly proud of their performances, as were we all.
The singles and doubles and EAD events are yet to come and no one in the draw will be relishing playing any Wales player male or female!
