Top of the League!!!

TTk Tonyrefail (B) got off to a great start today by winning every match in style. The registered number 1(Connor Smallman) could not make the event due to sickness, however the boys managed fine without him by beating Ferndale (B) 6-1, last years winners Ael-y-Bryn 7-0, and Swansea (D) 7-0. Scott James, Lewis Davies, and Jack Parry all won 6 matches out of 6.

In division 3 the girls also had a good start by winning two out of three team matches. The team of Sadie Edwards, Carys Webster, and Nicole Hall(last years division 4 runners up) beat Tonypandy 5-2, and North Gwent 4-3, before losing to Nantymoel 7-0. North Gwent were 1 player short so Shane Wigley played for them and had a fantastic victory over Tonyrefail's Nicole Hall 3-1, before losing closely to Carys Webster in the deciding match.

Jared Parsons was on form as well in Division 2 as he won 6 out of 6 matches for Tonypandy. The China trip seems to be paying off, as he played some of his best matches to date.

The next Welsh League is in January and hopefully we can carry forward our form. Well Done to all the players involved!!!!!!

Glamorgan trials=Jared and Carys gain a place in the team

What a fantastic day for the Tonyrefail academy. Jared Parsons and Carys Webster gained a place in the under 15 B team which is a fantastic result considering the strength of the tournament. Nicole Hall was extrmely unlucky to meet Carys Webster at the quater-final stage and therefore was one round away from gaining a place in the team.

Connor Smallman was the 'Man of the day' beating two welsh champions (stefan Jeczalic, under 11) and (Lee Morgan, under 13). Connor was also one round away from gaining a place in the team. However, he eventually lost to Ashley Stavrakis in three very close sets. Jack Parry also had an excellent day losing at the last 16 stage. Jack had a great win over Ryan Oyler in the group. Lewis Davis also performed well and was unlucky not to go through his group, only to lose on countback. Lewis beat Rob Tyler 3-1 in the group, but in losing to Alex prosser 3-0 loat on games difference.

This was the best team performance to date!!! Keep it up guys!!!

September-Player of the Month

Carys Webster-has worked very hard the last month and has gained a place in the Glamorgan team. Her attitude to training is fantastic!

august player of the month

Jack Parry-his attitude has impressed me and that's why he was selected to go to the grant summer school. He also played fantastic in the latest welsh tournament held at Nantymoel

Nanty Moel Tournament

At the lastest Welsh tournament 8 players travelled to Nantymoel to compete with some of the best players in Wales. Sadie Edwards and Carys Webster both did brilliantly by reaching the semi-final in the under 18 girls category. Nicole Hall reached the quater final of the under 15 and under 18 girls. Connor Smallman impressed, reaching the quarter final of the under 15 boys; also, Jack Parry had a good win over Ashley Johnson and got through his under 15 group.

Grant Solder Summer School

Jack Parry (Year 8) had the fantastic opportunity to be coached by Britains best during the three day training schedule held in east London. The coaches included Desmond Douglas (former European top 12 champion and top 10 in the world player) and Carl Prean (former English champion, top 20 in the world). Jack said 'the training was excellent and I had a chance to practice with Desmond Douglas. I feel I have improved a lot and thank Greenhouse for this fantastic opportunity'.

Dear Greenhouse Tonyrefail players, this is Matthew Syed just dropping you a note to say: I am delighted that you are all training so hard and improving so fast - keep it up!I have just come back from an amazing time at the Olympic Games in Beijing. I was doing the table tennis commentary for the BBC and spent a lot of time at the venue watching the world's top players in action. The key to improvement is taking the right attitude into the training hall and playing with all your energy and enthusiasm. The same thing will see you right at school, whether you are studying science or English.Having the right attitude and work ethic is the key!Good luck in everything you do this seasonBest regards, Matthew

player of the month-july

All players who went on Scotland trip (sadie, Carys, Nicole, Connor, Lewis, Shane, Aaron). For me this is the best team i have ever had in terms of Attitude, dedication, effort and commitment. They all deserve to have player of the month!!!!!!!

Girls Junior British League

Excellent result for our players as we secured the fifth and final qualification spot at the junior british league. Both Tonyrefail and Tonypandy combined the strongest girls from each academy to compete in the strongest junior league in the UK. Sadie Edwards and Crays Webster won 3 out of 6 matches with Nicole hall winning 2 out of 6. Massive improvement compared to last year where we didn't stand a chance

boys school rankings

Well done to Jared Parsons for retaining his number 1 spot before he sets off to a trip to China. He defeated Connor Smallman 3-0 in a great final. Connor had a few chances to take a set. However Jared seemed to step it up and use his experience when it mattered most. Lewis Davies also palyed very well and finished 3rd.

Scotland Trip

What a fantastic experience it was for the seven players i took to Scotland. The kids had a chance to see the city of glasgow and practice in the best club in the UK. Each day they played Table Tennis for at least 5 hours with the inclusion of hard physical fitness.

We also had a chance to do other sports such as: Badminton, Football, Swimming and Tennis. One evening we also went to the cinema to watch 'the journey to the center of the earth'.

The tournament was also a success with Nicole Hall and Sadie Edwards both winning 15 out of 20 matches. One evening they had a chance to practice with the local senior players and give 100% throughout.

Hopefully the experience and hardwork will pay off!!!!
